About the Author and this Book
Margaret has been finding, photographing and recording the native orchids in the southern Sydney area for over 25 years. The knowledge that she has accumulated is reflected in the wealth of information that is packed in the 70 pages of this book.
Its compact size - A5 - means that it can easily be tucked into your backpack when you head off into the bush. The area covered is roughly bounded by the Georges River National Park and Oatley Park to the north and Dharawal National Park and Maddens Plains to the south. It includes Sutherland Shire bushland reserves, Kamay Botany Bay National Park on the Kurnell Peninsula and also the Royal National Park, Heathcote National Park and the Garawarra State Conservation Area. Of course, most of the orchids featured can also be found in other areas around Sydney. As well as being a useful identification guide to the native orchids of southern Sydney, it is hoped that after using this book the reader will become more aware of how unique and precious these native orchids are and in some small way this may help to preserve these fascinating plants for the future. |
